What is an LCI Study?

The Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) is a program sponsored by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) that provides funding for redevelopment planning studies at key activity centers and transit nodes. Each LCI study includes an analysis of land use, transportation, and real estate development potential. LCI plan recommendations are developed through a collaborative process with citizens, stakeholders, and a team of planning professionals. The LCI program also provides access to implementation funds for transportation projects that support regional goals, such as transit accessibility, economic development, and livable communities. For example, LCI implementation funds can be used to support Transit Oriented Development around the Oakland City MARTA station, connections into Fort McPherson, and streetscapes linking the Atlanta BeltLine Westside Trail to surrounding neighborhoods.

Planning Principles

The Oakland City / Fort McPherson LCI Study will consolidate and build upon previous plans for Oakland City, Fort McPherson, and the Atlanta BeltLine Westside Trail;  We will develop a program of transportation improvements to provide connections between redevelopment areas and surrounding neighborhoods; We will plan streetscape improvements and vibrant public spaces to enhance residential areas;  We will create redevelopment concepts that are realistic and consistent with local market realities, and refine economic development concepts to create employment opportunities and benefit local residents.  A collaborative public outreach process will engage with a diverse group of community residents and stakeholders, and develop a vision for redevelopment and revitalization.
